metal: In February you've introduced a new machine to wide offer. What will you introduce in the nearest future?

Reinhard Gruber: Today´s modern aircraft fleets are implementing strong, lightweight construction materials such as titanium to maximize their fuel efficiency. Titanium is difficult to machine due to poor thermal conductivity and high elasticity. As Makino´s T4 already beats the titanium challenge Makino started to introduce T2 a smaller 5-axis machining center. On the PIF Poznan International Fair 8-11th June, Makino presents new concepts for automated pallet and parts handling with robots. Makino has the technology, application and automation for turnkey solutions for mixed parts and high volume production. The new MMC in combination with Makinos horizontal and vertical machining centers stands for handling of work holding pallets in mixed parts production with small lot sizes. The MMC efficiently improves operations and set-up times while reducing fixture costs. In high volume production a single-spindle hybrid concept at an attractive price is the right approach for new projects. Hybrid concept means combining both vertical and horizontal machining centers in one automated production line. Makino presents in Poznan a new Slim 3 vertical machining center plus high-dynamic parts handling with a gantry-robot. The Slim Cell is a new entry level system into high-volume production for companies in Central Europe.

Photo 34metal: We can easly assume that today most important thing for the client is multitasking of company. Do you have any extra services in your offer?

Reinhard Gruber: Makinos market approach is Consulting & Sales. Consulting means advising our customers in devoloping their business based on successful maufacturing solutions. This includes many kinds of Makino services. Our extra offer is the worldwide newest production technology supported by our Technology, Training and Service Center in Bratislava. Special service packages like training seminars, technology transfer or services after warranty are available for all Makino machines in Central Europe. All users can contact us and we will prepare individual offers. Our customers know that Makino is a leading enterprise in machine tool technology and services.

4metal: The financial crisis is luckly behind us. How would you judge it from the perspective of time?

Reinhard Gruber: For sure, it was not a good time for all machine tool suppliers. Sales in the European market dropped down significantly. However, we see a recovery in the production of Makino machines already on a quite good level, mainly due to orders from Asian customers.

Photo 44metal: You have representation offices in many countries across the whole of Europe. Which market is the easiest one and which is the hardest one?

Reinhard Gruber: I don´t think we can divide into easy and hard markets. Our success relies mainly on the quality of our products and the customer partnership. A long-lasting relationship with your customer is a key success factor. In some markets like Germany, Italy, US, etc. we can count on a long tradition. The last 3 years we successfully built up a solid customer base in Central Europe and we will continue with our way of doing business, according to our claim: Long lasting partnership - precisely!
